Our source of Native Bluebells

Our bluebell bulbs and seeds are harvested by hand from our own private ancient woodland deep in the heart of the Conwy Valley on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park in north Wales.

In the UK Hyacinthoides non-scripta is a protected species under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Landowners are prohibited from removing common bluebells on their land for sale and it is a criminal offence to remove the bulbs of wild common bluebells. This legislation was strengthened in 1998 under Schedule 8 of the Act making any trade in wild common bluebell bulbs or seeds an offence. We have a license from Natural Resources Wales which allows us to cultivate and harvest this protected species in a sustainable manner.

How to grow bluebells

Please visit our page about bluebell cultivation for advice and suggestions for planting and sowing, and for examples of combination planting and sowing.

Our Mission

Wildwood Bluebells are grown, managed and harvested by Conwy Valley Seed Bank:

“We are committed to conserving and preserving native British wild-flowers, plants and woodland for future generations and to facilitate and encourage re-population of native species such as Bluebells through a programme of conservation, regeneration and education.”
